A few days ago, it was revealed that Atlanta-based rapper Lil Keed had passed away at just 24 years old.
Born Raqhid Jevon Render, the cause of Keed’s death has not been revealed, but it was confirmed in a statement released by his label, Young Stoner Life Records, via social media:
“A member of our family is gone. Lil Keed was one of the most genuine and heartfelt human beings. He was an artist who loved his fans more than anything else. We lost a brother, a son, a father, and a friend. Keep him in your prayers and his legacy alive.”
Lil Keed made a huge splash in 2018 with the release of his popular mixtape, Trapped on Cleveland 2. The project would eventually lead to his deal with YSL where he would drop is album debut, Long Live Mexico, in 2019. The album peaked at number 26 on the Billboard 200. Many people first discovered him through his Goose-produced single, “Nameless,” featured on his fourth mixtape, Keed Talk to ‘Em, which dropped in 2018. That track reached number 42 on Billboard’s Hip-Hop/R&B chart and currently has over 46 million Spotify streams.
Keed’s passing is another blow to YSL, one of Atlanta’s most successful hip-hop labels. Last week, the label’s founder Young Thug was among 28 people named in a 56-count indictment which accuses Thugger of violating the RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) act, among other things.
