Young Thug Trial Judge Considering Mistrial Motion

TLDR: The Young Thug trial hit another roadblock as mistrial motions loom, with Atlanta News First offering an attorney’s take on the latest developments.

The Young Thug / YSL RICO trial has officially entered the realm of courtroom chaos. The latest drama? Mistrial motions swirling around after a key witness accidentally revealed a co-defendant’s prior jail sentence. Judge Paige Reese Whitaker was quick to cancel court and consider her next steps after dismissing the jury in a fiery exchange, where she called out prosecutors for their “sloppiness.”

According to Atlanta News First, the mistrial motion came after Wunnie Lee, aka rapper Slimelife Shawty, testified and referenced a social media post containing the hashtag #freequa, a nod to Marquavius Huey, one of Young Thug’s co-defendants. Defence attorney Nicole Westmoreland argued that this crucial information wasn’t prepped or redacted properly, telling the court, “We’re not going to be able to unring this bell.”

Judge Whitaker didn’t hold back, snapping at the prosecution, “What I’m trying to do is fix your sloppiness so that everybody won’t have wasted 10 to 12 months of their lives in this trial.” Still, she denied the initial mistrial motions without prejudice, leaving room for future appeals.

The Breakfast Club also chimed in on the case with their own take in their video titled “Young Thug Mistrial Watch Ramps Up 👀”. Charlamagne tha God, Jess Hilarious, DJ Envy, and the crew dive into how this mistrial motion could be pivotal for the trial’s future, echoing the growing buzz around the case.

With legal wrangling underway and public interest at an all-time high, the world is watching to see how this chapter of the high-stakes Young Thug trial will play out.

In related news, Young Thug co-defendant and key prosecution witness, Antonio Sledge—better known as Mounk Tounk—found himself jailed after his testimony unraveled in court.
