The single arrives six months after the original “My Brother’s Keeper,” which landed on streaming services February 16. Where that first record stood on its own, Part 2 widens the frame by bringing in NESTA, a New York-based artist with Jamaican roots. Kardinal has described both artists as children of Jamaican families carrying the culture forward, and that connection gives the collaboration a clear sense of purpose without weighing down the record.
Kardinal sounds energized by the moment. In announcing the release, the Toronto veteran jokingly called himself a “brand new legacy artist,” a phrase that neatly captures where he is in 2026. Decades into a career that helped open doors for Canadian hip-hop internationally, he is still releasing new music because he wants to, with the enthusiasm of someone who clearly still enjoys the process.
“My Brother’s Keeper Part 2” also follows “When There’s Smoke,” Kardinal’s June 26 release, continuing a productive stretch of new material this year.
A video appears to be part of the rollout as well. Kardinal’s Instagram post included crisp footage credited to Charlton Visuals, although an official Part 2 video has not yet appeared on his YouTube channel. If the release follows the pattern of the first “My Brother’s Keeper,” fans may not have to wait long. The original single arrived February 16, followed by its official video on February 28.
