For a few emotional moments inside a Los Angeles courtroom, it looked like Lil Durk had finally reached the other side.
On Sept. 11, a federal jury found the Chicago rapper not guilty on all five counts in his closely watched murder-for-hire trial. Prosecutors had accused Durk of financing a 2022 attack targeting Quando Rondo in retaliation for the killing of King Von. Rondo survived, while his cousin Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson was killed. Durk’s lawyers maintained his innocence, and after three days of deliberations, the jury cleared him. Complex reported that Durk’s acquittal covered every charge he faced in that trial.
But the celebration came with a brutal catch: Durk wasn’t going home.
The 33-year-old remains in federal custody as another case waits around the corner, giving new weight to popular YouTuber Louaista’s declaration that “Lil Durk is still fighting for his life.”
According to HotNewHipHop, the upcoming Lil Durk racketeering trial centres on allegations surrounding what federal prosecutors call the “Banks Gang Enterprise.” The government alleges the organization grew out of Only The Family (OTF), with some members and associates participating in criminal activity that included violence, robbery, drug trafficking and witness intimidation. Durk has not been convicted of those allegations.
The distinction matters. This isn’t prosecutors simply retrying the five charges Durk just beat. The upcoming case involves separate racketeering allegations, including murder in aid of racketeering, racketeering conspiracy and a firearm-related charge. The 2022 Los Angeles shooting remains part of the government’s broader allegations concerning the purported enterprise.
The acquittal was a major victory for Durk, but it didn’t bring him any closer to walking out of federal custody. With another trial scheduled to begin Oct. 5, his legal battle is far from finished. He beat the murder-for-hire charges, but the fight for his freedom continues.

Meek Mill Urges Akademiks Boycott
In other news related to Durk’s legal battles, Meek Mill is calling on hip-hop fans to distance themselves from DJ Akademiks over his coverage of the murder-for-hire case. According to Complex, Meek took particular issue with prosecutors using portions of a 2023 Akademiks interview with Durk during the trial, arguing that Ak had been “in Durk’s case” while the rapper “fought for his life.”
Meek urged fans to unfollow and mute Akademiks, while Durk’s attorneys argued during the trial that prosecutors had presented excerpts from the interview in a misleading way during closing arguments.
