Nearly two years after linking up for Sun Is Out, Toronto’s Tona and St. Catharines lyricist Sayzee are getting ready to run it back. Their upcoming collaborative album, Sunna 2, arrives in early August, bringing together two respected voices from Ontario’s underground hip-hop scene who have spent years earning their reputations through consistency rather than hype.
The rollout is already well underway. The Slot-A-produced “Sunito,” released on July 1, was the first taste of the project, pairing focused lyricism with a visual directed by Tyler Roussel. That momentum carried into “Yolonda,” produced by Tone Mason and released on July 24, with Roussel once again behind the camera. Together, the two singles suggest a project built around chemistry, sharp writing and production choices that complement both MCs without overshadowing them.

Sunna 2 Continues the Story
While Sun Is Out, released on April 19, 2024, established the partnership, Sunna 2 appears ready to expand on it. Alongside production from Slot-A and Tone Mason, the album also features contributions from The Kount, Cuzzin Vinny, Pangea and Eric.G, giving the project a lineup of producers that reflects the depth of Canada’s independent hip-hop community.
That collaborative spirit fits both artists. Tona has spent two decades helping shape Toronto’s underground, balancing thoughtful songwriting with a commanding baritone delivery. A JUNO Award-winner as part of Naturally Born Strangers, he has continued to evolve through solo releases, including 2025’s H.O.T.C., where “Farside” has become one of his most-streamed songs.

Sayzee has built his reputation differently but with the same relentless work ethic. The St. Catharines rapper’s expansive Your Favourite Rapper’s Worst Nightmare (YFRWN) series, along with a steady stream of concept projects and collaborations, has made him one of Canada’s most prolific independent artists. His 2024 track “Panama” recently surpassed 450,000 Spotify streams, further highlighting the audience he has cultivated through years of consistent output.
Rather than chasing whatever happens to be popular at the moment, Sunna 2 looks poised to continue what made its predecessor connect with listeners: two veteran MCs leaning into lyricism, experience and trust in each other’s strengths. If the first two singles are any indication, Tona and Sayzee aren’t interested in reinventing themselves. They’re focused on refining a partnership that has already proven it has plenty left to say.
