TLDR: With summer concert season coming to a close, we’re looking back at one of the biggest tour stops to hit Toronto this summer, as Chris Brown and Usher brought the R&B Tour north of the border for two unforgettable nights.
Spotlights, big stage… and a stadium packed with screaming fans. R&B hitmakers Chris Brown and Usher brought their tour to Toronto for two nights, making it their only Canadian stop.
The R&B Tour was first announced back in April, marking a legendary move for both singers as they hit the road together for the first time.
The show kicked off with the duo’s 2017 hit, “Party,” before Usher took the stage for his solo set. From bangers like “Yeah!”, “Bad Girl,” and “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home),” the R&B sensation delivered hit after hit, complete with his killer dance moves. The singer later had a little fun with a few audience members, hand-feeding them… yup, you guessed it… cherries.
Known for this viral concert bit, Usher has said that he specifically chooses cherries because they are fun, active, and a bit erotic. “It’s just fun activation and, I mean, that’s what R&B is all about—being connected and making people feel something,” he said in an interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show last year.
Up next was Chris Brown, and as expected, he did not disappoint. The 37-year-old Grammy winner had the ladies swooning with songs like “Warm Embrace” and “Residuals,” but the singer also had the crowd, myself included, feeling very nostalgic. An electric performance of “Wall to Wall,” followed by the somber “Deuces,” had concertgoers taking a trip down memory lane.
And it wouldn’t be a Chris Brown performance without a ‘blow-your-mind’ moment. Aside from his impressive footwork, the singer performed an aerial stunt, suspended from a wire harness as he glided across the entire stadium, making it look smooth and effortless.
From the live vocals and creative artistry to the choreography and undeniable energy, Chris Brown and Usher delivered a show worth seeing—and one that will undoubtedly go down as one for the books!
The R&B Tour is more than a concert—it’s a celebration of two artists who have helped shape the sound of R&B for generations.
