“Oh another one of those songs huh? Yeah, Beautiful day.”
Classified is no stranger to weed anthems – his love for the plant has been well-documented in his lyrics – and today he’s back with another pot-inspired anthem in support of his new album.
The “Legal Marijuana” video slides in just in time for the official Canadian legalization of recreational marijuana possession, home growing and sales to adults, becoming the second nation to do so.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau included marijuana legalization as an election campaign promise in 2015, and today millions of Canadians are celebrating the new law’s arrival. In fact, millions of people around the world are celebrating the country’s new stance on the “drug” with many hoping their own countries will follow Canada’s lead.
Classified’s latest album, Tomorrow Could Be The Day Things Change, was officially released on Oct. 12 marking his first full-length release in two years. The album is comprised of 13-tracks including six previously released songs from the critically acclaimed EP, Tomorrow Could Be…, as well as seven new tracks
The album features guest appearances by Anjulie and Tory Lanez, and an all-star Scotian cast on the track “Super Nova Scotian,” including Pat Stay, Skratch Bastid, JRDN, Quake Matthews, as well as Sunnyvale Trailer Park’s own Bubbles and Knucklehead.
On top of being one of Classified’s best projects to date, Tomorrow Could Be The Day Things Change is culturally relevant – filled with commentary that honours female empowerment, pays tribute to missing and murdered Indigenous women and lends a voice to children and women who have been abused among other themes.
The Harvey Glazer-directed “Legal Marijuana” is actually the seventh video released off the album, since all six tracks on the Tomorrow Could Be… EP released visual support.
“As one of the most influential hip-hop artists in Canada with over 100 million streams globally, the multiple JUNO Award winner hosted the 2014 JUNO Awards and has a combined 24 nominations and 8 wins between the MuchMusic Video Awards, JUNO Awards, and East Coast Music Awards.” Check out the video below. You can find Tomorrow Could Be The Day Things Change on various digital streaming platforms including Apple Music, Spotify, TIDAL, and more.
“Legal Marijuana” is HipHopCanada’s Song of the Day. The latest release follows the “Finish It” video, “Damn Right,” “She Ain’t Gotta Do Much,” “Powerless,” “Changes” and “Fallen.”
