Earlier this morning, Dateline reported that Sony Pictures label Stage 6 Films has acquired the worldwide rights to the the Breaker Studios film, Down With The King, written and directed by Diego Ongaro.
The movie, which sees Grammy-nominated rapper Freddie Gibbs making his feature film debut, made its world premiere in the ACID lineup that runs parallel to the Cannes Film Festival. It had also just recently won the grand prize at the Deauville American Film Festival.
Along with Gibbs, the movie will star Jamie Neumann (Lovecraft Country), David Krumholtz (The Deuce), Sharon Washington (Joker) and Bob Tarasuk (Bob and the Trees).
In the movie, Gibbs plays the role of rap star Money Merc, who becomes jaded with the music industry and the pressures of being a celebrity. He leaves his city to re-evaluate his life and career, and ends up in a small-town farming community. Down With The King is produced by Rob Cristiano (The Miseducation of Cameron Post), Kim Jackson (Blue Caprice), and Zach LeBeau (Trust Machine: The Story of Blockchain).
Musically, Gibbs is featured on the summer Nas single, “Life is Like a Dice Game” alongside Cordae. You can find it on Spotify, and other digital streaming platforms.
