Drake is once again the talk of the town today as the Toronto artist has officially released his third studio album, Nothing Was The Same. The album, originally scheduled for Sept. 17, is coming through Young Money Entertainment, Cash Money Records and Republic Records. Additionally, this is the first Drake album to be directly affiliated with his own label, OVO Sound. Several sources, including the always reliable Wikipedia, have listed the album as an OVO Sound/Young Money/Cash Money/Republic release. Other sources indicate that OVO Sound is a label owned by Drake, but not directly connected to his solo projects. In any event, the album is here and the feedback we’ve seen so far has been stellar.
Promotion for the NWTS kicked off early 2013 as a certified multi-platinum single, the Mike Zombie-produced “Started From The Bottom” was warmly welcomed by fans. The song peaked at No. 6 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and reached No. 36 on the Canadian Hot 100. The successful single was followed by “All Me” (featuring 2 Chainz and Big Sean) and the current radio hit, “Hold On, We’re Going Home.” Along with the album release, today marks the official debut of the single’s music video. The song “Wu-Tang Forver,” produced by Noah “40” Shebib, was also released not to long go as a promotional single.
The album, highly influenced by Marvin Gaye’s 1978 release, Here, My Dear, also features production from Boi-1da, Nineteen85, Jake One, DJ Dahi, Chilly Gonzales, Hudson Mohawke, Majid Jordan, Allen Ritter, Vinylz, Detail, Sampha and Jordan Evans. Guest appearances were limited to Jhené Aiko, Majid Jordan, Detail, Sampha and Jay Z.
As is the case with most major releases, Nothing Was The Same is available in both Standard and Deluxe Editions.
