Today in Vancouver: Cypress Hill Live at #1017HighTea

Vancouver’s own Fortune Sound Club will host their first annual High Tea event later today with West Coast legends Cypress Hill headlining.

The event will celebrate Canada’s legalization of recreational marijuana possession, home growing and sales to adults, becoming the second nation to do so along with Uruguay.

While the federal government was responsible for the bill that officially takes effect today — removing key elements of the Criminal Code that allowed prohibition for 95 years — the specifics of implementing legalization have been left mostly in the hands of provinces and territories.

In B.C., licensed private cannabis stores will only be allowed to carry products shipped from the B.C. Liquor Distribution Branch. According to the Vancouver Sun:

“After the federal Cannabis Act comes into force on Oct. 17, dispensaries carrying grey-market, non-medical cannabis will remain illegal. Licensed private cannabis stores in B.C. will only be allowed to carry products shipped from the B.C. Liquor Distribution Branch bearing an excise stamp.”

Along with B-Real and the gang, High Tea is expected to feature special guests DJ Kookum, DJ Marvel of The Freshest, and more.

High Tea is supported by Sapporo Canada. You can find more information on the official Facebook listing.
