On March 24, the 2024 JUNO Awards are set to ignite the Canadian music scene with a stellar lineup of nominees and performers. The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) announced the nominees and supporting acts for the 53rd Annual JUNO Awards yesterday at a press conference in Toronto.
Three artists picked up a nomination in both rap-specific categories including Connor Price (Spin the Globe and “Spinnin”), Haviah Mighty (Crying Crystals & “Honey Bun”), and TOBi (Panic & “Someone I Knew”).

Along with the rap categories, there were several other members of the local scene were recognized including an artist tied with the second most nominations out of all artists, Daniel Caesar. The Grammy-winner is tied for second (with TALK) for most nominations on this year’s list with five. Montréal singer-songwriter Charlotte Cardin has the most with six.
Caesar’s nominations include TikTok Juno Fan Choice, Single of the Year (“Always”), Album of the Year (Never Enough), Artist of the Year, and Contemporary R&B Recording of the Year (Never Enough).
Haviah Mighty picked up a third nomination by being featured on her sister Omega Mighty’s “Rush Dem” single (with 4Korners) which is up for Reggae Recording of the Year, while Connor Price also received a third nomination with a Breakthrough Artist of the Year nod. Indian-Canadian rapper-singer Shubh is another artist who snagged a Breakthrough Artist of the Year nomination, and he’s also up for TikTok JUNO Fan Choice. Fouki and Souldia received Francophone Album of the Year nominations, and the legendary Maestro Fresh Wes was nominated for Children’s Album of the Year with Maestro Fresh Wes Presents: Young Maestro Stick To Your Vision For Young Athletes.
Additionally, Maestro aka “the Godfather of Canadian Hip-Hop” is this year’s inductee for the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Maestro is already in the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, and has a ton of other impressive achievements including previous JUNO nominations and wins.
WondaGurl is up for Jack Richardson Producer of the Year for her work on Travis Scott’s UTOPIA, while world-renowned Canadian scratch DJ Kid Koala is still going strong, picking up an Electronic Album of the Year nomination for Creatures of the Late Afternoon.
Quinton Nyce (Art Director/Directeur artistique), Brodie Metcalfe (Designer/Concepteur), Davis Graham (Illustrator /Illustrateur), and Kaylee Smoke (Photographer/Photographe) were nominated for Album Artwork for the Year for I’M GOOD, HBU? by Snotty Nose Rez Kids, and video director Sterling Larose received a nod in the Music Video of the Year category for his work on the Snotty Nose Rez Kids video, “DAMN RIGHT.”. Larose was also nominated in the same category (with Zachary Vague) for “feral canadian scaredy cat” by young friend.
This year’s JUNO Awards, hosted by Nelly Furtado, will place on March 24 in Halifax starting at 9 p.m. AT. Tickets are available on Ticketmaster.
