South Bronx recording artist TH1RT3EN recently reached out to us with word about his new project geared at supporting homeless veterans. TH1RT3EN is a U.S. Army Veteran himself, and is donating 20% of the proceeds from his album to organizations like 1Matters, and Veterans Matter. We wanted to show our support and share his message with our viewers.
One of the TH1RT3EN’s video singles, “Remember Me,” has close to 200K views, spread out over 3-4 uploads of the production. The track has been out for several years.
Another thing I found cool and unique about the project, is TH1RT3EN’s decision to release hard copies via Etsy, a popular e-commerce platform for handmade, vintage, and factory-manufactured items.
Back in 2013, The Hype Magazine described TH1RT3EN’s music as “a blistering look into the mind of a desperate person. His style is reminiscent of Eminem, and as his idol, 13 spits the truth, his truth. The lead single, “Remember Me” recalls the harsh realities of living on the streets and the hope of a new tomorrow.”
Hype’s coverage also touched on his own experience with homelessness. From 2009 until 2012, 13 was able to scrounge enough money to record several songs that he placed on Reverb Nation. It was there that Goomba Music heard him and offered him a recording contract.”
“Lifestyle choices led 13 back to homelessness and he was in and out of shelters for a few years. A prolific writer, 13 was able to capture his experiences on paper. These notes became song lyrics. In 2008, he entered and won a contest landing him on Manhattan Rappers MIMS album MIMS Open Bars CD, released by American King Music on Dec 04, 2011 with a track called Vroom Vroom (Produced by Super Producer Lex Luger).
