2020 has already been such a tragic year for Canadian hip-hop and gun-related losses have been mounting at an alarming rate. This morning we’re hearing some sad news about another Toronto rapper that was just starting to really see his career trajectory shift upwards.
Just weeks after releasing his 11-track project Refund, budding Toronto rapper NHS Jay Jay was killed in Beamsville, ON which is roughly an hour from his hometown.
A Niagara police statement identified Jay Jay, born Jay Alexander, 20, as the victim of an apparent shooting in a Beamsville residence early Sunday morning. Jay Jay’s family has also confirmed his passing, and there’s already a ton of online chatter surrounding his death.
The NevaHad$hit rapper was featured on the popular Jane Babies project by Duvy which dropped late 2019.
Along with promoting his new project, Jay Jay had just released the King Bee-powered visuals for his Whelerbeatz-produced single “Dream.”
Our condolences to Jay Jay’s family and friends.
