Drake announces release date for Scorpion album

Drake releases his new double album Scorpion

These days, entertainers are more likely to reveal major career news through social media before their publicist even begins to put together a press release.

Drake, for one, is notorious for releasing new music in the middle of the night, or making random announcements through his Instagram account. Earlier tonight he did just that, revealing through Instagram that his next album would be out in June with the title Scorpion.

The OVO boss posted a picture of himself in a jacket with the words “Scorpion” and “June Twenty-Eighteen” written on the back, along with a CD emoji and the words ‘JUNE 2018’ written in the caption. The post has received over a million likes in just over 8 hours. He also made another post featuring a scorpion-themed chain.

HipHopCanada reached out to a source within OVO to confirm that this was in fact the name of Drake’s next album, and not something else that people had mistaken for a release date.

So the question is, when in June? We have two good guesses to work with.

The first is June 15. On this date in 2010, Drake released would make his studio debut with chart topping album, Thank Me Later.

Another possibility is June 21, which is officially the first day of summer.

Either way, don’t be surprised if it drops without an exact date being given in advance. It remains to be seen if any more singles or leaks will be out before the rest of the project. There’s still at least a month and a half to go so don’t it’s quite possible that there will be.

The album news comes as Drake has been dominating headlines again. Aside from breaking records playing Fortnite on Twitch, or donating money to people in need, Drake saw his “God’s Plan” single break his own 10-week record (set by “One Dance) as a Billboard chart topper. And now Drake has pushed himself out of the coveted top spot with his new song, “Nice For What.” It says a lot when the only person you need to worry about knocking you out of your chart positioning is yourself… and that’s no worry at all.

It’s safe to assume Drizzy Season is in full swing.
