Once again, Drake has made music history. Today, he be became the first artist in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 to hold nine of the top 10 positions at once. Along with that, he’s the first act since The Beatles to hold down the entire Top 5, with the Future and Young Thug-assisted “Way 2 Sexy” leading the charge.
Certified Lover Boy, which generate a massive 743.7 million on-demand streams in just the U.S. alone, made its debut atop of the Billboard 200 chart boasting the biggest week of any album in over a year’s time. Only one album has ever scored a larger streaming week by on-demand audio streams: Scorpion, with 745.92 million for its 25 tracks during its debut.
According to Billboard, Drake is now one of only eight artists with at least 10 number one albums in the 65-year history of the Billboard 200 chart, joining artists Eminem, Elvis Presley, and Kanye West. Only Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand (11 each), Jay-Z (14) and The Beatles (19) have more number ones.
“In all, Drake debuts 21 songs on the Hot 100, all from his new album Certified Lover Boy (released Sept. 3 on OVO Sound/Republic Records), which blasts in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 613,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Sept. 9, according to MRC Data.” – Billboard
Interestingly enough, only albums by Drake and Taylor Swift have been as big or bigger than Certified Lover Boy in a single week.
Thus, Drake’s Certified Lover Boy snares the biggest week for an R&B/hip-hop album, a rap album, an album by a male artist, and any album by someone not named Taylor Swift since Drake’s own Scorpion in 2018.” – Billboard
Along with Way 2 Sexy at number one, Drake’s nine songs in the Hot 100’s top 10 include 2) “Girls Want Girls” featuring Lil Baby 3) “Fair Trade” featuring Travis Scott 4) “Champagne Poetry” 5) “Knife Talk” featuring 21 Savage and Project Pat 7) “In The Bible” featuring Lil Durk and Giveon 8) Papi’s Home 9) “TSU” 10) “Love All” featuring Jay-Z.
