Toronto’s own DJ MelBoogie will be celebrating 25 years in the music industry with a special event taking place Thursday, Nov. 1 at Revival (783 College Street).
The event will feature an all-star lineup of performers coming to pay homage to Mel’s vast contributions to Canadian hip-hop, and honour the work she continues to put in to empower women in music, and beyond.
Her all-female rap group, The Sorority, will joined by Eternia, Lola Bunz, and the legendary Michie Mee for to serve as the main headliners for the show.
They’ll be supported by a cast of talented artists including recent JUNO Award winners Tona and Adam Bomb of Naturally Born Strangers, Rochester, Ray Robinson, Kidd Danielz, and special guests. It’s unclear if Rich Kidd will be on hand to join Tona and Bomb for a NBS reunion.
Considering Mel’s older brother is the legendary Maestro Fresh Wes, it’s quite possible he’s one of the special guests expected to make an appearance.
Along with Mel herself, music will be provided her longtime friend and collaborator, JJ Rock, as well as DJ Craig Brooklyn, and Channel 9.
DJ MelBoogie’s 25 Year Industry Celebration will be hosted by Keysha Freshh of The Sorority, and Dan-e-o from the Monolith movement.
There will be an industry social at 8 p.m., and the show is expected to kickoff at 10 p.m.

In other MelBoogie news, the Toronto vet recently became the Co-Chair of the music advisory committee for the JUNO Awards Rap Recording of the Year. The committee issued a press release this past week encouraging artists to consider the benefits of submitting their music for award shows.
