After a few delays and a huge build up in anticipation, Drake has officially announced the release date to his sixth studio album, Certified Lover Boy.
The announcement follows a villainous “hacking” message on ESPN’s servers during a SportsCenter broadcast last week, to reveal the September 3rd release date. However, there was no official confirmation from Drake himself, until Champagne Papi confirmed the release date on Instagram earlier this morning.
The singles teasing towards the album consisted of 2020’s “Laugh Now Cry Later,” as well as the 3-piece EP, Scary Hours 2, which dropped on March 5th with features from Rick Ross and Lil Baby. The Canadian icon also appeared on other projects leading up to the release, such as “Wasting Time” by Brent Faiyaz and an appearance on “Over The Top” by Smiley last month.
Certified Lover Boy follows Drake’s previous studio album Scorpion which was released back on June 29th, 2018 and managed to pull over an impressive one billion streams. It opened on the Billboard 200 with 732,000 album-equivalent units sold in its first week of release. There is obviously going to be a huge amount of interest in whether or not he can eclipse those numbers.
The full track listing for the anticipated album has yet to be released.
