The River Stage was alive with energy as these artists took the stage one-by-one, delivering memorable experiences to the enthusiastic crowd.
Kicking off the evening Melo Griffith, a rising star from Ottawa who hosted HipHopCanada’s Rolling Loud coverage last September. To the delight of the audience, he appeared on stage wearing an Ottawa Senators jersey, proudly representing his hometown. Melo quickly captured the crowd’s attention and had fans going wild with excitement. He even treated them to a performance of his latest single, “WYA,” which added an extra level of excitement to the night. Melo Griffith became the second artist at Bluesfest to proudly sport Sens apparel, with Dax rocking a Ottawa Senators fleece jacket during his performance on opening night. It further solidifies the connection between local artists and the city’s largest sports entity.
Following Melo’s high-energy performance, it was time for the two-time Grammy-nominated New Orleans musical sensations, Tank and The Bangas, to take the stage. This talented group had recently released their new album, Red Balloon, and they brought their infectious energy and interactive style to the River Stage. Engaging with the crowd, they delivered an unforgettable show, performing some of their biggest hits. They even got the audience involved in the performance by encouraging them to make animal noises, creating a unique and lively atmosphere. The group includes vocalist Tank Ball, bassist Norman Spence, drummer Joshua Johnson, and saxophonist Albert Allenback.
The night concluded on a smooth and soulful note with Los Angeles-based artist, Thundercat, captivating the audience with his mellow vibes and impressive guitar skills. Thundercat’s music seamlessly blends elements of R&B, soul, and funk, creating an enchanting and immersive experience. His performance showcased his musical prowess, bringing a perfect end to a super memorable night at Bluesfest.
