TLDR: Nardwuar interviews 2025 election leaders Mark Carney and Jagmeet Singh in two high-energy, highly personal videos that blend politics, music, and charisma.
Canadian music journalist and national treasure Nardwuar the Human Serviette has done it again—dropping two back-to-back interviews with 2025 federal election leaders Prime Minister Mark Carney and NDP leader Jagmeet Singh. The interviews, posted just 22 hours ago, are already making serious waves. Carney’s video has surged past 179,000 views and is currently sitting at #1 on YouTube’s trending list, while Singh’s latest appearance has passed 43,000 views and counting.
In true Nardwuar fashion, the encounters are packed with deep-cut trivia, rare records, and the now-traditional Hip Flip. Carney, doing his first-ever Nardwuar sit-down, surprised viewers with his admiration for The Clash and Ontario rap-rockers Down With Webster. He also shared his affinity for Charli XCX, saying he was into “I Love It,” “Boys,” and what he called the “go to school song,” likely referring to “Break the Rules.”
Singh, a veteran of Nardwuar’s campaign trail antics, marked his third appearance by declaring, “This is honestly one of the things I look forward to in the campaign. I know I have a guaranteed visit with Nardwuar!” He was gifted an early K’naan record and a 7-inch with a CUPE union protest track. Both he and Carney nailed the Hip Flip—proving once again that the real test of a candidate isn’t just policy, it’s poise under Nard pressure.
As Exclaim! noted, Nardwuar approaches every Canadian election with an open invite to party leaders, and while Singh and Carney showed up and showed out, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre remains noticeably absent. The last Conservative appearance ended with Nardwuar being manhandled by Stephen Harper’s security—so maybe the hesitation checks out.
With charisma, curiosity, and a little chaos, Nardwuar’s election interviews are an important part of the political conversation and a great way to get to know our political leaders.
