Billboard has announced that Drake will be named the Artist of the Decade at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards. The title was previously held by Eminem (2010s) and Mariah Carey (1990s).
“Drake rules Billboard’s Top Artists of the 2010s chart and will receive the Artist of the Decade Award at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards on May 23,” Billboard reported on Tuesday.
“Billboard previously revealed, among multiple decade-end charts, the overall top artists from Nos. 6 through 100 for the 2010s, along with the decade’s top artists for country, rock, R&B/hip-hop, Latin, Christian, gospel, dance/electronic and all-genre touring.”
Along with Drake, Billboard’s Top Artists of the 2010s included: Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Adele, Ed Sheeran, fellow Canadian Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Maroon 5, and Post Malone.
Since first charting back in 2009 with “Best I Ever Had,” Drake has dominated charts and broken countless records. In the past decade, he’s earned nine number one projects, and six number one singles. He had also holds the most total entries during that period, a total of 232, and 45 Top 10s.
Drake has also already been been announced as the winner in the R&B/hip-hop category, and is nominated in seven categories including Top Artist. Hosted by Nick Jonas, the event will take place Sunday, May 23 at 8 p.m.
