Tekashi 6ix9ine Arrested for Violating Supervised Release

TLDR: Tekashi 6ix9ine was arrested for violating his supervised release, returning to the legal spotlight yet again after his gang-related charges.

Once again, rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine finds himself in the crosshairs of the law. Known legally as Daniel Hernandez, the 28-year-old “Gummo” star was arrested for an alleged violation of his supervised release, according to ABC News. After skyrocketing to fame in 2017, Tekashi’s career has been a rollercoaster of fame and infamy, with headlines just as often about courtrooms as concerts.

The warrant for Tekashi’s arrest came from Manhattan’s federal courthouse, with Judge Paul A. Engelmayer presiding. The court alleges Tekashi violated terms set after his 2018 racketeering and gang conspiracy case, in which he avoided a lengthy sentence by agreeing to cooperate with authorities. His testimony helped convict multiple members of the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods, but the rapper’s cooperation has drawn ongoing threats and legal troubles.

This year alone, Hernandez has faced multiple brushes with the law. Earlier, he was arrested in Santo Domingo on charges of domestic violence against his girlfriend, Dominican rapper Yailin la Más Viral. In March, Tekashi was attacked at an LA gym, an incident captured on video and speculated to be gang-related—a reminder of his dangerous associations. Despite such violence, Tekashi’s fame hasn’t waned, though his legal woes seem to follow closely behind.

According to Newsweek, Tekashi’s latest arrest could significantly affect his future under supervised release. Representing one of the more sensational stories in rap, Tekashi’s entanglements reflect both his reckless ambition and the high cost of defying gang loyalty. He’s set for arraignment soon, though no further details have been released. For now, it appears that 6ix9ine’s legal past is far from buried.
