Diddy Trial Day 23: Guns, Evidence Disputes and a Kanye Sighting

As proceedings resumed Friday in the federal sex trafficking and racketeering trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs, Day 23 centred on evidentiary rulings, juror eligibility concerns, and a surprise—yet brief—appearance from Kanye West, who was seen in the overflow courtroom.

Defence Pushes Back on Evidence, Guns & Protocol

Court began with the judge making rulings on several defence motions, including objections to how law enforcement conducted their search of Diddy’s home. The defence argued that agents’ use of “long guns” while entering the home and questioning Diddy’s sons raised concerns about procedural fairness. However, the judge sided with the prosecution on this motion.

A Homeland Security special agent testified about the discovery of multiple firearms and substances (including ketamine and MDMA) during the raid. The agent admitted under cross-examination that he could not confirm who opened the gun safe or whether it was locked prior to the raid. Questions were raised about the lack of documentation and chain of custody regarding the weapons, which the defence highlighted as a potential procedural lapse.

Juror #6 Potential Dismissal Over Residency Inconsistencies

A major development came during discussion surrounding Juror #6, whose residency had come into question. The juror had reportedly told the court he lived in the Bronx, but later revealed he was staying in New Jersey with his girlfriend and commuted to NYC during the week. The judge noted inconsistencies and the juror’s apparent inability to follow instructions as reasons for dismissal.

The defence strongly objected, arguing that it is common for NYC workers to live in New Jersey and that dismissing this juror risks undermining the trial’s diversity. One defence attorney noted, “this is the first time in 25–30 years we’ve had a jury this diverse.” The judge has opted to reserve his judgement until Monday.

Witness Testimony: Jonathan Perez & Security Protocols

Jonathan Perez, a former assistant for Combs Enterprises, testified to being involved in both personal and professional matters for Diddy. He recounted being asked to clean up hotel rooms after “King Nights,” secure sex-related items, and coordinate events. Perez stated that most of the time, his work was strictly business and described Diddy as “hardworking.”

Notably, texts from January 2023 were shown where “Jane” helped coordinate a “sexy stuff” shopping list, and others displayed communication described as “typical” between Perez and Jane. He also testified that Diddy was not tech-savvy and that KK, another figure in the case, instructed him to cooperate with law enforcement investigations into Sean Combs.

Kanye West Spotted in Overflow Room

In a surprise moment outside the main courtroom, Kanye West—who had previously been blocked by prosecutors from attending the trial while Jane testified—was spotted briefly in the overflow room. This marks his first confirmed return to the federal courthouse since Day 22, when our exclusive report revealed he and his partner were denied entry into the Southern District of New York courthouse.

Our anonymous sources close to Diddy indicated to us here at HipHopCanada that further Kanye sightings at the courthouse are a strong possibility—but nothing is confirmed, as Kanye is known to be “unpredictable.”

Prosecutors Introduce Recordings, Lockbox Confusion Lingers

Prosecutors played recorded conversations between KK and Perez discussing the 2023 video leak. Perez testified that Diddy feared he had been compromised, and KK even proposed launching an investigation. Prosecutors assert that these recordings were part of a broader conversation relevant to the case.

Meanwhile, questions persist around how agents accessed a gun safe. Testimony revealed that a locksmith was present during the raid, yet the agent on the stand could not recall who opened the safe or confirm whether the firearms were even inside it prior to their seizure.

Closing Notes: Trial Pauses for Weekend

We ran into members of Diddy’s defence team outside the courthouse late Friday afternoon, who appeared to be in good spirits but tight-lipped as the trial heads into another critical week. Court is set to resume Monday with the prosecution expected to rest their case either on Wednesday or Friday.
