Diddy Legal Team Makes Big Demand in Sex Trafficking Case

TLDR: The Diddy legal team demands key evidence and moves to dismiss a charge in his court battle, calling the statute “racist.”

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ high-profile legal battle continues to unfold, with his defence team making aggressive moves ahead of his scheduled May trial. According to Law&Crime Network’s latest video, Combs’ attorneys are pushing prosecutors to disclose their legal strategy and witness list while also fighting to get one of the charges against him dismissed.

The charge in question, which falls under the Mann Act, is being challenged by Combs’ legal team on the basis that the law has “racist origins.” As detailed in CNN’s report, the Mann Act was historically known as the White-Slave Traffic Act and was originally passed in 1910 to combat forced prostitution. Combs’ defence argues that the law has been disproportionately used to prosecute Black men while similar conduct by white defendants has gone unpunished.

Combs’ lawyers filed a motion this week asserting, “No White person has ever been the target of a remotely similar prosecution,” according to USA TODAY. They claim that the federal indictment unfairly targets Combs because of his status as a powerful Black man and cite historical cases where the law has been used against Black public figures.

Meanwhile, the prosecution has dismissed these arguments, stating that the case is based on evidence and not racial bias. Federal prosecutors have yet to respond directly to the defence’s latest motion but previously criticized Combs’ legal team for accusing the government of racial motivations.

With Combs’ trial set to begin in May, the stakes are high for the former music mogul, who has pleaded not guilty to all charges. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber breaks down these developments in their latest video, which can be viewed below.
