Drake collaboration missing from new Trippie Redd album Trip At Knight

August 21, 2021 Update: The Drake collaboration, “Betrayal” has been officially released, and is available on Trip At Knight (Complete Edition) which you can find on Apple Music, Spotify and other outlets.

Canton, Ohio-born rapper Trippie Redd has officially dropped his fifth studio album and second release of the year, Trip At Knight. The new 17-track project follows Trippie’s Pegasus: Neon Shark vs Pegasus Presented By Travis Barker (Deluxe) which came out back in February. Trip At Knight is a sequel to Trippie’s 2018 debut, Life’s A Trip, which made its debut at #4 on Billboard with 72K total units sold.

Trip At Knight features some high profile collaborations but the highly anticipated track with Drake is noticeably absent from the original upload that reached digital streaming outlets. Drake was expected to be featured on the song “Betrayal” produced by Dynox and PinkGrillz88, a track Trippie recently discussed with Zane Lowe.

“Every single I drop, Drake had tapped in with me and he just was like, ‘Bro, like, this shit is crazy. I’m fucking with your vibe like you’re killing shit right now. Send me in your bag. Like what’s up? What are we doing? You feel me?’ And I’m just like, know what I’m saying, like I’m ready for the next opportunity.”

Apparently, at least according to Trippie fans on social media, the song is being “added late”—not even sure what that looks like—but as of 2 a.m. Eastern Time “Betrayal” was not on the Spotify or Apple Music stream of the album. Safe to assume it’s the same on other outlets. Either way, hopefully the “Dark Knight Dummo” rapper is able to get that sorted out as it would certainly benefit his stream count. It’s quite possible that the collaboration with Drake has been slated to drop on the Deluxe version, but the expectation was certainly that it would be out today. Even HotNewHipHop’s post for the album includes the feature in the track listing they posted, despite the song not appearing in the embedded stream. That’s just one example, there’s actually bunch of sites with “Betrayal” listed in the track listing, but the point is the song was expected to be part of the initial release.

If it is in fact on the Deluxe version, the move is obviously intentional, but Trippie hasn’t had the greatest luck when it comes to his Drizzy collaborations. Back in 2018, he was originally a guest feature on Drake’s mega hit “God’s Plan” before abruptly being left off the version that was released. Trippie has been asked about it a few times publicly, like during an interview with Akademiks, and the topic has been the subject of several YouTube videos. Trippie spoke on his history with Drake during that same interview with Lowe:

“But now we got a record that’s just going to feel me, like it’s going to set the tone for sure. Like we did it. He’s a perfectionist. Just back and forth talking to each other, trying to figure out what we going to do for the record and shit. Honestly, he’s just very, I don’t know. He likes to keep his shit perfect. He wants to make sure we have the best song we could possibly have for this moment.”

To no surprise, Trippie’s social media posts for the new album are peppered with comments asking why “the Drake track” was missing. Drake actually liked the Instagram post that Trippie made for the album just after it dropped on Friday, which could add to the idea that “Betrayal” will be featured on Trip At Knight (Deluxe). Also worth noting, the editorial write up published with the Apple Music stream has no mention of Drake, while most of the other guest appearances were. I find it unlikely they wouldn’t mention the song that’s driven a lot of the hype surrounding the album’s arrival.

Since the album’s release, Trippie has made another post on Instagram indicating he had a “surprise coming” for his fans:

“I Love You All hahaha keep streaming THE ALBUM TAK I GOT A SURPRISE FOR YALL 😉”

To Trippie’s credit, Trip At Knight comes packed with some big records and a massive list of guest features, even with Drake missing from the party. That list includes, in order of appearance, SoFaygo, Lil Uzi Vert, Playboy Carti, Ski Mask The Slump God, Juice WRLD, XXXTENTACION, Polo G, Lil Durk, Babyface Ray, Sada Bay, and Icewear Vezzo. You can find Trip At Knight on Apple Music, Spotify, and various other digital streaming platforms via 1400 Entertainment / 10K Projects.
