Winnipeg’s R.O.Z Returns With New Album The Emblem

TLDR: The Emblem album marks R.O.Z’s return to DSPs with a 13-song celebration of his sound, label and independent legacy.

Almost eight years after releasing Z International, Winnipeg rapper R.O.Z is back with The Emblem, his first full-length project to hit digital streaming platforms since 2018. Across 13 tracks, the Ghanaian-Canadian artist reflects the evolution of both his own career and the independent label he’s spent the last 15 years building.

Much of The Emblem shines a light on the artists surrounding R.O.Z at EMB Music Group. Brampton natives Nigel Knight and Mason Groovy both make appearances, while EMB’s in-house production and songwriting duo 2Epik help shape the album’s sound. Joe Gez, the label’s Francophone Afrobeats singer-songwriter and producer, further reinforces the project’s international flavour. Toronto’s Big Lean rounds out the guest list, reconnecting with R.O.Z after previously appearing on multiple tracks from Z International.

That family-business approach has always been central to R.O.Z’s story. As the Ghanaian-Canadian founder of EMB Music Group, he has spent 15 years creating his own infrastructure while moving between rap and Afrobeats long before the latter became a dependable industry buzzword. His résumé includes records with Mr. Eazi, Davido and Quamina MP, along with tours and stages shared with Nas, J. Cole, Pusha T, Fabolous, PARTYNEXTDOOR, and others.

The gap between albums was hardly an absence. R.O.Z remained visible on major stages, including Davido’s Toronto dates, while his label continued developing artists and strengthening connections between Winnipeg, the GTA and West Africa.

Those credentials matter, but The Emblem is most compelling as a marker of where R.O.Z stands now. Since Z International, he has expanded EMB, partnered with Sony Music West Africa, earned award nominations and continued pushing Canadian Afrobeats into larger rooms. In 2025, he marked EMB’s 15th anniversary, won a Global Sound Award in Toronto and headlined a huge hometown celebration in Winnipeg.

The album’s title speaks to the bigger picture behind the music. An emblem is a symbol of identity, history and shared purpose, and those ideas run throughout the project. The Emblem reconnects R.O.Z with longtime collaborators while introducing more of EMB’s evolving roster, reflecting both where the label began and where it’s headed.
