Fists In The Air: Sunshyne & Shyne tackle racial injustice & Residential School System in new video

A mother and daughter duo with roots in the Oneida and Chippewa Territories just recently teamed up for their first musical collaboration. “Fists In The Air,” presented by Shyne and Sunshyne, was officially released to digital streaming platforms at the beginning of September.

“Fists In The Air” powerfully addresses the atrocities and injustices done to children (as well as adults) throughout the shameful Residential School System that operated from the 1880s into the closing decades of the 20th century. Filming for the official video took place in the territory of Deshkan Ziibiing, (also known as Chippewa of the Thames First Nation), as well as at the Ska-Nah-Doht Village and Museum, which is located within the Longwoods Road Conservation Area.

“The visuals capture the resiliency of our people, the strength we carry within ourselves and for our community, the numbers we have in our youth, and most importantly; WE ARE STILL HERE. PROUD. UNAPOLOGETIC. AND WITH OUR FISTS IN THE AIR!”

Along with the new single, Shyne is set to drop her Higher Expectations album debut in the near future, but as of now there’s no official release date. You can check out “Fists In The Air” on Spotify and other digital streaming platforms. Check out the video below.
