On Friday, Sept. 14, Director X joined the likes of Keshia Chanté and Russell Peters as an inductee into the Brampton Arts Walk of Fame. The occasion was celebrated at The Rose theatre in Brampton with performances by Kardinal Offishall (also the MC), Karl Wolf, Choclair, and Maestro Fresh Wes.

The induction recognizes X’s contributions and achievements in the arts and entertainment industry and honours him for building pride in the Brampton community, and inspiring emerging artists and creators.

Director X is known for directing high-budget, visually distinctive videos and has worked with high-profile hip-hop artists including Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Kanye West, and many more. His work has been nominated and awarded by the MTV Music Video Awards, BET Awards, and Much Music Video Awards.

In 2015, X won Best Feature at the Atlantic Film Festival for his directorial debut, Across the Line, and on June 15 marked the world premiere of his remake of the iconic ‘blaxploitation’ film, Superfly.

“Being recognized by my hometown is definitely special,” said Director X during a one-to-one interview during the celebration.

“Growing up in Brampton definitely helped inspire my career and it feels great to receive this award.”

When asked what advice he has for creatives on the come up he advised artists to, “keep creating and then make sure people are seeing what you create. There are so many tools at our fingertips today to bring content to life and to share it, take advantage of it and keep building.”
