THERAPIST: Toronto’s SadBoi Drops Infectious New Single

TLDR: Yesterday, The Orchard issued a press release for the new “THERAPIST” single from budding Toronto star, SadBoi. “THERAPIST” was co-produced by Canadians Mike Wise and Lowell, and is available for streaming now via LVRN Records / The Orchard.

Rising Star SadBoi Delivers Infectious New Pop-Infused Record “Therapist”

Following her first JUNO Award nomination and a glowing review from Pitchfork, who dubbed her a “rising star,” Toronto-bred breakthrough artist SadBoi is back with the infectious new pop-infused single, “THERAPIST,” available now to stream on all digital platforms via LVRN Records / The Orchard – LISTEN HERE.

Co-produced by Canadian hitmakers Mike Wise (Chappell Roan, Usher, Britney Spears) and Lowell (Beyoncé, Charli XCX, Tate McRae), “THERAPIST” offers a darkly playful take on love, obsession, and delusion. SadBoi debuted the track this week on COLORSxSTUDIOS delivering a dynamic performance that amplified the song’s sharp humor and unrestrained chaos, turning each lyric into a diary entry marked by red flags. Today, she drops off another performance of “THERAPIST” live from the psych ward out now on 4 Shooters Only – WATCH HERE.

With a delivery that’s equal parts manic and mesmerizing, SadBoi revels in the absurdity of toxic devotion. The song’s protagonist doesn’t just fall for someone—she spirals, orchestrating a symphony of manipulation, prescription cocktails, and ethically questionable therapy bills, all in the name of love. Lyrics like “I paid off your therapist to tell you I’m the only bitch in the world” teeter between satire and sincerity, exaggerating modern relationship paranoia into something both absurd and unsettling.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind her latest release, SadBoi shares, “This record is about a time when I was dating someone, and our relationship was beautiful—but only when he actually showed up for therapy. I realized it was when he stopped going that everything really fell apart for us. This one’s also about me accepting that I might actually be the problem, but in most cases, I know I’m not. If I could, I would’ve done anything to keep my ex in therapy to bring back that version of him.”

Following the success of last year’s DRY CRY project, SadBoi has firmly established her signature genre-blending style, collaborating with artists like Smiley, Cash Cobain, Blanco, DJ SAZE, Cleotrapa, and Duquesa. DRY CRY earned critical acclaim, with Pitchfork declaring, “The album feels like a declaration of incoming supremacy from SadBoi—not quite a coming-out, but a confirmation of her rising star.”
