Hot on the heels of “Barking” being nominated for British Single at the 2019 Brit Awards, record-breaking British rapper Ramz has released new single “Hold You Down” via Polydor Records today.
A little over a year ago Ramone Rochester (aka Ramz) was studying Sports Development at university and looking for a quick way out via retail. Then he dropped his debut single, “Barking” and it all changed…
Having amassed over 145 million global streams on the track and another 50 million views on the video, the Certified Platinum “Barking” was the most streamed UK Urban track of 2018, the most viewed video of all time on British media outlet GRM Daily and included in Spotify’s UK Top tracks of 2018 and Capital Xtra’s Best Grime & UK Hip Hop Songs Of 2018.
This followed it reaching #1 on Apple Music UK, #1 on Spotify UK (a world first for a debut single from an artist), #2 on the UK Official Singles chart (crowning Ramz as the highest charting British urban artist since 2015) and a #1 streaming hit in Germany.
The Fraser T. Smith-produced follow up single to “Barking,” entitled “Family Tree,” is now Certified Silver in the UK having amassed over 27 million streams, ensuring Ramz has now amassed over 250 million streams and 13.5 million monthly listeners and 2 million record sales to date over the course of just two single releases.
Ramz’s brand new single “Hold You Down,” (produced by Crumz and 169), was premiered by MistaJam on Radio1 Xtra. Addressing affairs of the heart, “Hold You Down” is a feel-good anthem dedicated to his one in the million girl: “This track is about me being in love with a girl.” Says Ramz.
“When you find the right girl; hold her down.”
The video for “Hold You Down” was directed by Chris Chunky and shot in London.
Earmarked by The Fader as an artist who “deserves to blow up in 2018” and described by Pigeons & Planes as “poised to make a real impact in 2018,” Ramz has delivered on the hype, cementing his reputation as the upcoming British MC to watch.
With an unprecedented rise to glory that is testament to an ever-evolving and expanding UK music scene, Ramz’s lyrics provide a time capsule snapshot of the corners of the capital and are as relatable as his success-story is aspirational. While he may be a newcomer to the game, Ramz is holding all the Aces and his ambitions are sky high.
You can find “Hold You Down” on Apple Music, Spotify, and various other digital streaming services.
