The 94th Academy Awards are currently airing live from Hollywood, but most of the focus is now on an incident that just occurred unexpectedly during the broadcast.
After making a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, Oscars presenter Chris Rock was the recipient of a massive bitch slap from Jada’s husband, Will Smith.
It’s unclear if Rock was aware that Jada has been diagnosed with alopecia (hair loss), but the Smith’s clearly felt that his joke about “seeing her in ‘G.I. Jane 2′” has crossed the line.
Without any warning, Smith stormed the stage and delivered the blow before returning to his seat. A stunned Rock looked back at the crowd and exclaimed, “Wow, Will Smith just smacked the shit outta me.”
In response, Will shouted back at Rock “Keep my wife’s name out your f****** mouth,” twice.
As fate would have, Will would go on to win the Best Actor award for his work in the movie King Richard. During his acceptance speech for the award, Will apologized to the Academy and fellow nominees for his actions. “I hope the Academy invites me back.”
