Among the various gems found on the new Travis Scott album UTOPIA is the Drake-assisted “MELTDOWN,” featuring production by Toronto’s own Boi-1da, as well as Coleman, BNYX, Vinylz, and Tay Keith. Aside from absolutely bodying his verse, the big news on this feature is the fact that Drake takes the opportunity to reignite his beef with Pusha T, while also taking aim at Pharrell’s friend and longtime collaborator, Pharrell Williams.
“I melt down the chains that I bought from yo boss / Give a fuck about all of that heritage shit / Since V not around, the members done hung up the Louis / They not even wearing that shit.”
Coming with a slighly more sinister and aggressive delivery than usual, Drake references the custom Pharrell chains he purchased through an auction in 2022, and then claims his circle is no longer rocking Louis Vuitton, while showing love to the late fashion icon Virgil Abloh. “V” was named the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear ready-to-wear line in 2018, and Pharrell succeeded him as men’s creative director after Abloh’s untimely passing in 2021 at just 41-years-old.
The jab arrives just over a month after Pusha T resumed his feud with outpspoken Drake supporter and veteran rapper, Jim Jones. During Pharrell’s first Louis Vuitton show in Paris on June 20, Pusha T and his brother from The Clipse, No Malice walked the runway, and a new Clipse track premiered with bars seemingly directed at the DipSet Capo.
Shortly after, Jones appeared to address the situation by posting a reel of himself laughing and captioning the Instagram post with the name of one of Pusha’s albums, My Name Is My Name. “Let me know if they serious cause my name is my name #Capo.”
In “MELTDOWN” Drake states that Pharrell and Pusha are lucky he wasn’t able to get to that Paris event and claims it was due to the lawsuit brought on by one of the viral Her Loss promotional stunts. He also uses the opportunity to show love to Toronto’s Wass Gang, a crew connected to prominent Toronto rappers like Pressa and Robin Banks.
“You lucky that Vogue’ was suing / Cause I would’ve been with the Wassas in Paris and shit
