Sayzee Enlists AWOL and Vatoz for Melodic Anthem “Sunrise”

TLDR: “Sunrise” marks week five of the weekly Sayzee series, I Hate Mondays, pairing rugged Wild West textures with melodic hooks.

By now, Sayzee has made it clear he doesn’t believe in easing into a week gently. Already five Mondays deep into his I Hate Mondays campaign, the Canadian lyricist flips the tone again with “Sunrise,” a self-produced entry that leans melodic without losing its edge

This time, he brings company. Nova Scotia’s AWOL takes the hook and gives it a smooth, steady lift, while Toronto’s Vatoz keeps things grounded with a more direct presence. The beat carries a subtle Wild West feel, like a dusty guitar loop drifting in the background. It has that high-noon tension to it, but instead of a standoff, the track leans into melody. It’s rugged, but also reflective.

So far, the series has jumped from the raw urgency of “Ringworm,” to the politically charged “Alex Was Right,” to the darker turn of “God Hand,” and the split-personality energy of “Wizard Guns.” “Sunrise” moves in a different direction. It leans into melody without softening the edges, showing that Sayzee can open up the sound without sanding down the grit that defines him.

“Oh good. A fresh Monday. Inspiring. This week’s I Hate Mondays drop is ‘Sunrise,’ produced by Sayzee — because apparently he doesn’t get tired — featuring AWOL from Nova Scotia and Vatoz from Toronto. It’s melodic. Don’t be alarmed. There’s a Wild West–sounding sample floating through it, like a cowboy is about to draw at high noon but instead everyone decided to harmonize. Very rugged. Very emotional. We’re evolving. AWOL slides on the hook, Vatoz grounds it, Sayzee orchestrates the whole thing like it’s a casual cross-province business before coffee. No rollout. No “new day, new me” speech. Just another Monday with a cinematic cowboy soundtrack playing while you clock in. Sunrise. Try not to get too hopeful…..”

At the end of the I Hate Mondays campaign, Sayzee plans to release a full album under the same name, compiling the weekly drops and possibly additional unreleased material. HipHopCanada can also confirm that at least one video has already been shot in support of the series, with more expected as the rollout continues.
