Edmonton to Compton: Mouraine enlists Westside Boogie for new single “Big Dawg” from upcoming debut In Search of Gold

Since being crowned one of Complex Canada’s Top 25 Rising Canadian Artists to Watch Out For in 2021, fans have eagerly awaited the next move from Edmonton recording artist, Mouraine.

And while he has remained relatively quiet the last few years, it was just within the past few months that Mouraine decided to break his hiatus by dropping various singles from his forthcoming debut album, In Search of Gold. He released the upbeat and conquering “Gold,” along with the somber but optimistic “Tonight,” which featured a compelling melodic performance accompanied by elevating storytelling.

But now the Sudanese-Canadian rapper is making it rain on fans with yet another track, “Big Dawg.” It’s an infectious banger that travels overseas to recruit Shady Records’ Compton heavyweight, Westside Boogie, where throughout the deadmen produced track, the pair flex their status and ability to overcome adversity that storms their path. With electrifying bars like:

“Made it through the thunderstorms
I don’t care about the rain
Cuz shit, I’m used to being poor
Even days when I was sore
Said fuck it let it run its course”

Alongside the single’s release, the official tracklist for In Search of Gold was revealed with 13 concise tracks for fans to digest. In terms of guest appearances, we’re currently expecting the project to feature award-winning Halifax R&B veteran, JRDN, and Mouraine’s brother, Moto.

Mouraine also spoke on the album’s thematic offering, his maturity, and ultimately, self-reflection upon what he deems to be important in life.

“There comes a time in every artist’s career to pursue their unimaginable creativity, to find themselves and their sound. “In Search of Gold” is metaphorically a representation of my life journey. I’ve always thought that chasing possessions was going to fulfill me. But I realized that to find gold is to find your purpose, peace, and happiness, and that’s what this album means to me.”

In Search of Gold is set to release on May 5, 2023. Fans can celebrate the single’s release by pre-ordering and supporting Mouraine’s debut album on Bandcamp.
