McQueen: Mandates have been lifted, but Toronto rapper Money Marlo is keeping the mask on

Innovation and determination have been key elements in Money Marlo’s successful return to the music scene. It’s those types of qualities that have allowed the Toronto rapper to drop four big singles since March, along with a grip of impressive supporting material.

Marlo’s latest release is the new single, “McQueen,” powered by Platinum-producer Hozay Beats (NLE Choppa, Pop Smoke), which showcases his previously stated plans to expand his sound with a more melodic delivery. Furthermore, the subject matter on “McQueen” is a bit of uncharted territory for Marlo, conveying lyrics more introspective than ever as he walks you through the multi-layered meaning of the song.

“I throw on a McQueen scarf to hide all my pain,” says Marlo, referencing a popular garment by British luxury fashion house, Alexander McQueen. “I feel we all mask pain in some way, whether it’s literally from behind a mask, to behind musical work. We all mask and try to heal our pain differently. This is my take on pain and a view on healing through my eyes.”

Overall, “McQueen” is a perfect sample of what to expect from the larger project Marlo is planning to roll out later this year. Combining his hard-hitting street sound with his new style is sure to create a body of work yet to be seen from the Scarborough-native, and it will be a solid testament to his continuous growth.

Like the singles that came before it—”30’s,” the Max Van De Bunt-produced “Christian,” and “Love Song“—”McQueen” will arrive with a stunning visual powered by Toronto-based SIP Entertainment; the team behind “Christian.” The latest video features Marlo back in a 20K square foot mansion after pulling up in another slick Lamborghini Urus.

Marlo continues to re-establish himself with big singles, and his music video game is on lock, but he’s taken it a step further to keep up with the trends. Not only did he release an NFT collection to coincide with the “30’s” campaign, but he’s also released two Augmented Reality (AR) filters on social media. The most recent, an interactive game inspired by “Love Song,” has brought Marlo a ton of new viewers along with motivation to roll out even more filters. He’s one of the only Canadian artists releasing AR filters with his songs, and a new one is scheduled to support “McQueen” as well.

Money Marlo’s “McQueen” will be available on all digital streaming platforms on June 17, and the video will be available the same day on his official YouTube channel.
