Toronto’s Money Marlo drops new augmented reality (AR) filter for “Love Song”

With the summer season just around the corner, Money Marlo has announced a new interactive augmented reality (AR) filter to support his latest single, “Love Song.”

The Toronto rapper first stepped into the AR space with an edgy “30’s” filter which slowly froze over a user’s screen after a brief period of time. The “Love Song” filter takes the interactive element a step further by becoming an AR game which you can play wherever you activate it.

For those just getting familiar, AR filters work with your camera, adding a layer or imagery in the foreground or background of your image.

“You’ve got to stay ahead of the game to remain in it. If you’re not creating and pushing forward, you’re falling behind.” – Money Marlo

Marlo’s new release is easily one of the most impressive uses of augmented reality tech within the Canadian music scene. With “Love Song” playing in the background, users need to move their device around in order to locate and then break hearts that appear on the screen—punching, slapping or flicking them away. While new hearts jump across the user’s screen, a counter can be seen at the very top listing how many hearts have been broken. After ten hearts are broken, the speed and overall difficulty increases. You can check out a sample of the filter in the embedded video below.

“Love Song” was released on May 13 along with an accompanying video directed by Toronto’s Orazio. It pays homage to Far Rockaway, Queens rapper Chinx who was murdered in May 2015 at the age of 31.

The new “Love Song” AR filter can be located now through Money Marlo’s official Instagram and Facebook profiles.
