Rolling 200 Deep: Canadian Merkules featured on historic new posse cut paying homage to DJ Kay Slay

If you were around in the 2000s, you might remember the hype surrounding the mega posse cut released by the late world famous DJ Kay Slay. “Rolling 25 Deep,” which dropped in April 2005 at the height of the mixtape era, featured 25 of the biggest names in the game at the time.

“Rolling 25 Deep Part 2” was released in 2010, and “Rolling 50 Deep” dropped in 2020 in support of his Homage EP. In 2021, Kay Slay released the Trackateering Music-produced “Rolling 110 Deep,” which was a single off his Accolades EP. The track featured Canadian rapper Merkules, along with 109 other lyricists. It was the last official posse cut he would release.

“Yes, it IS really 110 lyricists on one track, produced by Trackateering Music! Grab a drink and settle in, because this is a wild ride!” – DJ Kay Slay

Less than a year later, Slay, born Keith Grayson, passed away due to complications from COVID-19 in New York City at the age of 55.

While Kay Slay was known for many things besides the lengthy posse cuts, when it came to those, he always tried to out do himself, seemingly getting longer with each new version. Which is why it’s fitting that the new historic posse cut paying homage to the legendary DJ has so many incredible contributions, including another appearance from Merkules. There’s actually only 184 artists listed, but that’s neither here nor there.

“Honoured to be apart of this for a second time,” Merk commented on YouTube. “RIP to a legend and a pioneer. Kay Slay FOREVER!”

The Will C. and Daniel “Danny 2 Times” Cotton-produced “Rolling 200 Deep,” which could be the longest rap song ever made at over an hour in length, is stacked with an incredible lineup of artists spanning several eras. One notable name in the list is Kay Slay’s former artist Papoose, who revived his “Alphabetical Slaughter” flow to pay homage to his friend and mentor.

The music video, directed and edited by Will C. and Richie4K of StreetHeatTV, features all of the artists in one long clip, but the song is split into 16 different tracks on digital streaming platforms.
