Where Are These Iconic Rap Groups Today?

YouTuber mattyballz has released a new video asking “Where Are These Iconic Rap Groups Today?”

“The iconic rap groups that inspired many hip hop scenes to come were amazing back in the day, but after they split, what happened to all of their members?”

The video dives into the current status of group members from Compton-based N.W.A., Detroit-based D12 and Los Angeles-based Odd Future.

N.W.A., an iconic rap group formed in 1987, consisted of Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Arabian Prince, with DJ Yella and MC Ren joining the lineup a year later. Straight Outta Compton, their studio album debut, was released on August 8, 1988.

D12, aka The Dirty Dozen, was another iconic rap group which was formed in Detroit, Michigan in 1995 and was active until 2018. The membership list included Eminem, Proof, Bizarre, Mr. Porter, Kuniva, Swifty McVay, Bugz, and Fuzz Scoota. Their studio album debut, Devil’s Night, was released on June 19, 2001.

One of the more recent iconic rap groups, Odd Future (aka OF aka OFWGKTA aka OFWGKTADGAFLLBBLSBFBN) was founded in 2007 and was active until 2015. OF has an incredibly long membership list that includes Tyler, the Creator, Left Brain, Jasper, Dolphin, Hodgy, Syd, Domo Genesis, Mike G, Taco, Earl Sweatshirt, Frank Ocean, L-Boy, Matt Martians, Pyramid Vritra, Casey Veggies, Na-Kel Smith, LegoHead, Sagan Lockhart, Lucas Vercetti, Julian Berman, Luis Perez, and Brandun DeShay.

The OF Tape Vol. 2, was the group’s only studio album, released through Odd Future Records and RED Distribution on March 20, 2012. It’s the sequel to their mixtape debut, The Odd Future Tape which dropped in 2008.
