Ottawa rapper Dillin Hoox is revisiting one of the most important chapters of his extensive catalogue this summer.
Beginning June 12, the Kurdish-Canadian artist will release one song per week from his Home Land project, a seven-part rollout revisiting the politically charged series that helped build his fanbase in the early 2000s. It’s a deeply personal series of songs rooted in Kurdish identity, displacement, struggle and survival.
Long before Kurdish issues received broader international attention online, Hoox was using rap to document the realities facing Kurdish communities around the world. Early records like “Home Land,” “Home Land 2,” and “The Barzani Episode” resonated heavily with Kurdish listeners globally, helping establish a devoted audience during the MySpace era and beyond.
Now, nearly two decades later, Hoox is rebuilding that foundation with updated production and re-recorded vocals while preserving the emotional weight of the originals.
“There’s been a lot of demand for these songs to be released again, so I went back and reworked them properly,” Hoox explains. “I recorded all the vocals over brand-new beats to give the tracks a fresh sound while keeping the originals alive.”
The rollout arrives during a particularly strong stretch for the Ottawa artist. His 2024 single “Do Enough” recently surpassed 2.25 million Spotify streams, introducing a newer audience to an artist who has long balanced sharp political awareness with introspection and personal storytelling.
That duality has always defined Hoox’s catalogue. Whether dissecting psychological struggles, reflecting on immigration and war, or paying tribute to Kurdish resistance, his music has consistently carried a sense of lived experience rarely manufactured for trend cycles.
