Big Swerv: G Herbo Drops New Project & “Candyman” Video

Platinum-selling Chicago hip-hop luminary G Herbo uncovers his anxiously awaited new project, Big Swerv, as he takes another major step forward both artistically and personally. Listen to the album now via Republic Records. In tandem with the release, he revealed the music video for the aptly titled “Candyman,” which you’ll find below.

On the track, an anxious beat brushes up against airy synths, conjuring the unease of a classic horror flick score. Meanwhile, Herbo digs deep. He pleads, “God forgive me for my sins,” and he makes a confession, “At least a hundred nights I cried when I lost my twin.” While the sonic tension tightens, he steps into another light with a sharp refrain, “Call me Candyman.” The accompanying music video effectively channels this spirit on-screen with a nod to the timeless Chicago-set horror flick, Candyman.

Amplifying his signature sound, the album also includes songs for every mood. On “Ten” with Sexyy Red, he creates a raucous anthem for the ladies. While on “In The A” epitomizes his relationship with Atlanta, his second home, as the city has been instrumental in sending his career to the next level.  Never being one to stray too far from Chicago, longtime collaborator and friend Chief Keef is also present on the album’s “No Pics.” Big Swerv finds Herbo tapping in with rising stars like Rob49, Baby Drill, and Skilla Baby on the recently released “Shoot.”

In celebration of Big Swerv, he launches a hometown takeover this weekend with a series of  events in Chicago. Today, the Just Don store (170 N Sangamon) will host a special Big Swerv merch pop-up from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Exclusive items will be on-sale only at the store!

On Saturday September 7, he will grace the stage of the 9th annual Tip Fest – Teens In The Park presented by John Walt Foundation and The Chicago Park District. This free community event invites young fans to congregate and enjoy what promises to be an unforgettable hometown special guest appearance by Herbo. On the eve of Big Swerv’s arrival, Rolling Stone visited Herbo in Chicago for an exclusive and extensive profile. In reference to the new project, the outlet praised how “it’s also him doing something he hasn’t previously been able to do: let loose with his music.”

In 2022, he made a major statement by dropping the double-album opus Survivor’s Remorse: A Side & B Side. In addition to achieving critical acclaim, it notably included guest appearances by Jeremih, Future, Offset, Gunna, Benny The Butcher, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Young Thug, Meek Mill, Conway, and Kodak Black.

However, he’s got more music and surprises in store. This is G Herbo’s time.
