Just over an hour ago, posts started to appear online indicating that 36-year-old Memphis rap star and entrepreneur Young Dolph had been shot and killed in his hometown.
Sadly, local news outlet FOX13 Memphis has reported that multiple law enforcement sources have confirmed that Dolph was killed inside a Memphis cookie store on Wednesday afternoon. Police confirmed that another person was with Dolph at the time of the shooting, but it’s unclear if they were injured.
“Maurice Hill, the owner of the shop where the shooting happened, Makeda’s Butter Cookies, told FOX13 his employees said Young Dolph, 36, walked into the store to buy cookies. Someone then drove up and then shot and killed him around 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the bakery in South Memphis.” – FOX13
Just a week ago, Dolph, a father of two, was seen on social media showing love to that same small business, stating that he would regularly shop at the store.
“One week ago —- Young Dolph at Makedas Cookies, showing love, promoting the place he stopped by often. Today, he was shot and killed there. RIP Legend.” – Memphis reporter @Dakarai_Turner
It’s too early to suggest there’s a connection between the video and Dolph’s murder, but the situation is eerily similar to the events that lead to the death of Pop Smoke. The Brooklyn rapper had inadvertently given away the location of the Airbnb he was staying at on Snapchat, which resulted in a home invasion and shooting.
Chicago-born Young Dolph, née Adolph Robert Thornton Jr., made his debut in 2008 with his Paper Route Campaign mixtape, and released his studio album debut, King of Memphis, on February 19, 2016 via his own company, Paper Route EMPIRE. Most recently, Dolph was promoting the Paper Route EMPIRE compilation, Paper Route Illuminati, which came this past July. He was also promoting his highly popular collaborative album, Dum and Dummer 2 with his cousin, fellow Memphis rapper Key Glock.
According to FOX13, “Young Dolph was supposed to pass out turkeys at St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Memphis this Friday.”. Our thoughts and condolences go out to Dolph’s friends and family.
Rest In Peace
