Interview: Q&A

Paris Louis talks “My Side” collabo with Gxlden Child & CMPLX

Last week COB65 collective artist Paris Louis teamed up with Gxlden Child and CMPLX for this new release titled “My Side.”

“My Side” is a trap anthem that brings us into Paris’ inner world and his inner circle. There’s a duality to the track’s title “My Side,” which refers to both the different sides of Paris Louis, as well as the people in his life who stay on his side.

Paris doesn’t have a ton of music released right now, but this track seems to deviate from his typical M.O. A lot of his previous work is much more rooted in singing, vocals, and R&B vibes.

But this track switches up pace for Paris with a disgusting CMPLX trap beat and a bar-driven vocal approach. This is on some real nice melodic trap vibes. Listen to “My Side” below, and be sure to scope our interview with Paris.

Q&A: Paris Louis

HipHopCanada: Start off by telling me about the significance of this song to you on a personal level.

Paris Louis: I just wanted to let people know how it be on my side in my city of Montreal and how my crew be on a daily basis.

HipHopCanada: I feel like “My Side” has a double meaning. Because on the one hand, it’s kind of a reference to the different sides to your own personal being. But it’s also in reference to having your team of people – the people who are on “your side”.

Paris Louis: It’s exactly that, I couldn’t have explained it better.

HipHopCanada: Tell me the story behind how the collaboration with Gxlden Child came about for this one.

Paris Louis: Well we have the same entourage so he hit me up saying we needed to link up. And at that time I was recording “My Side”. So when he pulled up to the studio he heard it and the rest is history.

HipHopCanada: This track (and well as your last few tracks) have been much more rap-driven than your earlier work, which was much more on some R&B, singing vibes. Talk to me about that progression.

Paris Louis: I love to sing. I’ve been singing since I was 7. But I just felt like I needed to find myself in my music and do something that my listeners can relate to on a personal level. I feel like I have to find myself, and the path that I’m taking right now.

HipHopCanada: Talk to me about the significance of your cover art, and what “sides” of yourself it is meant to represent.

Paris Louis: The cover was made by Rawssi. He’s an amazing graphics artist and also happens to be my manager. So he knows where I wanted to take this cover. My life has always been upside-down but no matter what I’m still gonna win in God’s eyes.
