NFT $RAP UP Week 5: Instagram, MLS, Tiffany, UFC, CryptoGlider, Voxels & more

The NFT $RAP UP series returns with the latest article powered by the good folks at Guerrilla Music.

Crypto News

Crypto continues to do what it does best, as many of the crypto YouTubers would say, “It might go up or it might go down.” It’s fluctuation during the bear market is something that doesn’t need to be watched too closely. It’s constant and lulling like the tide going in and out while we wait for the crypto tsunami. This is when the terms “diamond hands” and “paper hands” make sense. Just as it sounds paper hands are when an investor sells because prices start to go down. They sell out of fear or a lack of belief. Diamond hands are what those of us that are HODLING our bags have. The conviction to stay the course and profit off another bull market, no matter how long it takes.

Crypto prices are always changing. These are prices at the time of writing, watch online for current prices.

  • Bitcoin $30155.43 CAD
  • Ethereum $2213.92 CAD
  • Binance $421.86 CAD
  • Cardano $0.69 CAD
  • Mana – Decentraland $1.40 CAD

NFT News

  • As of August 4th, Instagram expanded it’s NFT integration to 100 countries in Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and the Americas. An Instagram spokesperson said, “As of today, we support connections with third-party wallets including Rainbow, Metamask, Trust Wallet, Coinbase Wallet and Dapper Wallet coming soon. Supported blockchains at this time include Ethereum, Polygon and Flow. There are no fees associated with posting or sharing a digital collectible on Instagram.”
  • Tiffany sold 250 “NFTiffs,” digital passes which can be minted and redeemed for custom-designed CryptoPunks pendants and a matching NFT art piece, according to their website and Twitter. To buy an NFT, customers had to already own a CryptoPunk of their own. For each NFTiff purchased, Tiffany designers will create a custom pendant based on the buyer’s CryptoPunk. Each piece will be rendered in 18-karat gold and feature at least 30 gemstones and/or diamonds. Each NFTiff, which provides access to a pendant and a matching NFT digital rendering, costs 30 ETH, or around $50,000.
  • Major League Soccer just signed Bored Ape #6045 also known as Striker to the league. The BAYC NFT was bought by the league for 100 ETH. Striker will make his virtual debut at the MLS’ All-Star Game on August 10 as the league’s newest All-Star. It’ll be interesting to see how this connects to their NFT Fantasy Soccer game.
  • The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has teamed up with Dapper Labs to launch its Non-Fungible Token (NFT) collectible product, UFC Strike. UFC Strike will start with a first round of 100,000 ‘fully loaded’ packs, consisting of three NFT moments from UFC fighters like Francis Ngannou, Amanda Nunes, Kamaru Usman, Rose Namajunas, Derrick Lewis and Justin Gaethje, and more.

Wearable News

My favorite wearable of the week is this CryptoGlider by artist CryptoBunny. There are 1,000 to be bought on the Decentraland marketplace for 15 $MANA each.

I love the idea of flying around the metaverse on these cute little gliders. Check out the full suits and masks made by the same artist too.

Metaverse News

Voxels, formerly known as CryptoVoxels, is calling on the community to help it improve. For those that don’t frequent virtual worlds, Voxels is a web-based metaverse on the Ethereum blockchain. It was launched in 2018 and quickly became a popular place for events. Parcel owners can easily drag and drop blocks to build and rebuild on their plots of land. This is nice since other metaverses, like Decentraland, require coding and some designing knowledge. The downside is that it feels like once it was built and parcels were sold it was abandoned like a barren, post apocalyptic Minecraft. There’s nothing aesthetically pleasing about the world except what the parcel owners with amazing imaginations can build with cubes. A few things that confuse me about Voxels is their lack of a token and that the avatars are round while all the wearables must be build out of pixels. They should have started with avatars like The Sandbox’s pixelated citizens. Unfortunately for Voxels, beautiful metaverses like Decentraland, The Sandbox and AltspaceVR popped up that drew the event crowds away. Now, via a tweet from @cryptovoxels they’re calling for holders to let them know what they want from their parcels. If you own land now is you time to ask for what you want.
