Prosecutors have announced that they’ll be seeking the death penalty in the Charles Jones (aka Julio Foolio) murder case.
From a report by FOX 13 Tampa Bay, “Prosecutors say they’re weighing whether to seek the death penalty against any of the suspects charged in the death of rapper Charles Jones, also known as Julio Foolio. Four suspects appeared in court Wednesday.”
On the night of June 23, 2024, shortly after his 26th birthday, Jones was tragically shot and killed, and three other men were injured when three individuals armed with a pistol and two rifles opened fire in the parking lot of a Holiday Inn in Tampa, Florida. Two additional suspects, also armed, were present but did not discharge their weapons. Jones had been trying to secure a room at the hotel after being evicted from an Airbnb for exceeding occupancy limits.
Authorities later arrested Alicia Andrews (21), Isaiah Chance Jr. (21), Sean Gathright (18), and Rashad Murphy (30) in Jacksonville in connection with the murder. A warrant has been issued for Davion Murphy (27) for his alleged involvement and he’s been on the run now for over two months. Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw stated that the killing was an act of retaliation by rival gang members.
