We were back inside the Southern District of New York courthouse for Day 20 of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ federal trial, where the defence began its long-anticipated cross-examination of “Jane,” the government’s central witness.
The day was marked by the judge Arun Subramanian’s ruling on a mistrial motion, renewed debates over metadata, and emotionally complex testimony as Jane discussed her romantic and sexual history with Diddy in granular detail.

Judge Denies Mistrial Motion Amid Metadata Dispute
Diddy entered the courtroom in a baby blue sweater as the defence’s motion for mistrial was officially denied. The defence had argued that Bryana Bongolan, a government witness, committed perjury by submitting photo evidence with misleading metadata.
The judge acknowledged that the defence had every right to point out inconsistencies in Bongolan’s testimony, but stressed that the defence had prior knowledge of the photo and failed to raise objections earlier in the trial.
Attorney Danielle Shepro pressed the argument that the government’s case was undermined by digital inconsistencies. A focal point was a screenshot allegedly taken on an iPhone, which the defence said indicated a different timeline than what the witness claimed.

Cross-Examination: Jane Testifies to Emotional Complexity and Power Dynamics
Under cross examination, Jane confirmed that Diddy is currently paying for her attorney and admitted that she initially had no interest in cooperating with Homeland Security. She testified that she continued spending time with Diddy even after learning he was under investigation. “I wanted to be a good girlfriend and partner,” she said, adding that she loved the affection and attention he gave her.
Jane admitted she still loves Diddy, describing late-night routines where they’d watch Dateline until falling asleep. She spoke of being drawn to Diddy’s emotional vulnerability and affection, saying, “I loved to see him in any environment” and that she liked “being sexy for him.”
She described participating in “fantasy talk” and “hotel nights” that involved role-play and booking entertainers. Jane testified that Diddy encouraged her to coordinate these activities and often made her feel “confident” and “wanted.” She stated that she moved from NYC to be closer to him in Los Angeles and eventually started an OnlyFans in 2024 for financial independence.
Over the course of three years, Jane testified, Diddy wired her a total of $150,000. Though she maintained that she made her own money and supported herself prior to their relationship, she acknowledged feeling pressure to seek his approval, especially in generating income.
Drugs, Jealousy, and Public Relationships
Jane admitted to taking ecstasy even in situations where she was not explicitly asked to and testified that using drugs made her feel “liberated.” She noted Diddy’s use of anti-depressants and described how his behaviour shifted during “Fuck It Fridays,” when he would allegedly use those days to let loose.
She expressed emotional difficulty with Diddy’s relationship with rapper Yung Miami, saying, “I didn’t sign up to date a man who is in a public relationship.” Jane admitted to being jealous after seeing Diddy gift Yung Miami a Maybach.
Texts between Jane and another individual, identified in court as “KK,” were presented under seal. The defence used those messages to suggest that Jane was a willing participant in some of the activities she later described as coercive. One juror appeared visibly uncomfortable during the reading of explicit texts, including where Jane allegedly wrote, “you want to see me suck some hard d**k in the hotel room” and “I never had someone make me cum as much as you.”

Alleged Sexual Arrangements and Money Transfers
Jane also recounted her experiences with other entertainers, saying she “made love to Paul” and was referred to as “a trifecta” with Jane, Diddy, and Paul. She testified that Diddy encouraged her to contact another entertainer, Kabral, and described watching porn together as part of their relationship dynamic. Messages she sent to Kabral included graphic descriptions of sexual desires, which the defence argued reflected consensual behaviour.
Additionally, Jane testified that Diddy invested $20,000 into her business in 2022, and though he never took profit or control.
A Complicated Relationship on Display
In one text presented to the court from June 2023, Jane wrote to Diddy: “You know how conflicted I am. I could’ve powered back up. I love you so, so, so much.” Diddy also left her a voice message calling her “Crackpipe,” and the pair joked about a “love contract.”
Jane was questioned about the residence she currently lives in, as the defence displayed photos of various areas of the home. They also presented text messages between her and Combs, in which she told him the total move-in cost was $40,000—including first and last month’s rent, plus a security deposit.
Jane testified that she wanted Combs to feel comfortable when visiting and confirmed he paid $10,000 a month in rent. However, she also stated that Combs would sometimes threaten to stop covering rent if she upset him. In one message, she reportedly responded, “I’m not Cassie. I can make your life hell.”
Videos of Jane with Diddy in both Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas were played under seal. Jane said Diddy acknowledged seeing other women, and she referred to some of them as “hoes.”
Closing Observations
Day 20 of the trial illuminated the tangled nature of Jane’s relationship with Diddy—financially, emotionally, and sexually. With the defence now steering the cross-examination, more details are expected to emerge about the blurred lines of power, consent, and affection that define the case’s central narrative.
