Last night, New Jersey City University kicked off the school year with a special event presented by the NJCU Student Activities Board, featuring comedian and entertainer Chico Bean at the historic Margaret Williams Theatre. As part of NJCU’s Welcome Back celebration for both returning and new students, Chico Bean delivered a performance that was equal parts hilarious and heartfelt.
Throughout the night, Chico’s high-energy set had the crowd roaring with laughter, but what truly made the night special was his interaction with the students. In an unexpected twist, he invited current NJCU students to come on stage and showcase their individual talents. From aspiring singers belting out melodies to graphic artists and illustrators sharing their creativity, the stage was a vibrant display of the diverse talents that make up the NJCU community.
The night was not just about comedy—it was about connection. Chico Bean created an atmosphere where students could shine, blending humour with genuine support for their artistic and creative ambitions. By the end of the night, the entire room was buzzing with energy, leaving students rolling in their chairs from both laughter and excitement.
As the performance wrapped up, Chico took time to answer questions from more than 15 students, ranging from lighthearted jokes to more serious topics about life, success, and college experiences. His down-to-earth personality resonated with the audience, making the night a memorable one for all who attended.
