Belly delivers big with new album See You Next Wednesday & “Die For It” video featuring Nas & The Weekdnd

Award-winning Ottawa rap artist and songwriter Belly has officially released his third album, See You Next Wednesday, and a supporting music video for “Die For It” featuring The Weeknd and Nas.

Ottawa rap star Belly has released his latest album, See You Next Wednesday.

Backed by big singles like The Weeknd and Young Thug-assisted “Better Believe,” and his Benny The Butcher collaboration, “Money On The Table,” the 15-track album has been easily one of the most anticipated Canadian albums to drop in 2021. “Better Believe” has lead the charge with over 18.5 million Spotify streams to date, but the recently released Nas collaboration (which also features The Weeknd) “Die For It,” is sure to do some big numbers. It’s already sitting at 38K streams on the same platform.

Other collaborations include the Moneybagg Yo-assisted “Zero Love,” the PnB Rock and Gunna-assisted “Razor,” fellow XO artist NAV on “Requiem,” Lil Uzi Vert on “Two Tone,” and the Big Sean-assisted “Scary Sight.” But don’t get it twisted, songs without any guest support like “Wu Tang” and the single “IYKYK” hit just as hard, if not harder.

“See You Next Wednesday is paying homage to John Landis,” Belly recently explained to Apple Music.

“That phrase was kind of like an Easter egg that he would drop in all of his movies. Even in ‘Thriller,’ when MJ’s walking out of the theater, you hear somebody whisper, ‘See you next Wednesday.’ The reason why is because I believe it was like the first script that he wrote—and he just never made the movie. So there was parts of this process where I felt like this might be the album that never sees the light of day. Just based on me trying to find myself again.”

See You Next Wednesday is Belly’s third album and first full-length release since 2018’s IMMIGRANT which featured hits like “What You Want” (with The Weeknd) and “Maintain” (with NAV). After that, Belly took a step back from the scene to focus on his mental health:

“I took like a heavy break, in terms of making my own music. And it wasn’t voluntary, at first. I was in a bad place, dealing with different mental struggles.”

Along with the new album, Belly dropped new James Larese-directed visuals for “Die For It” which has impressively already brought in over 3.5 million views on YouTube in just over 14 hours. “Die For It” is HipHopCanada’s Song of the DaySee You Next Wednesday on Apple Music, Spotify, and various other digital platforms via XO / Roc Nation Records.
