Quake Matthews Blooms with Positivity in Latest Album Roses: A Journey of Beauty & Pain

With two big singles already under his belt in 2024—including “Let The Boy Die” with Merkules and a SonReal-assisted remix to his song “Try—Halifax’s own Quake Matthews has pulled the trigger on his latest studio album.

The 14-track Roses, which also features the Young Buck collaboration “Learn As I Go,” follows Quake’s deeply introspective EP, The Darkroom, which was released in April 2023. That project saw Quake dealing with the loss of his close friend, Pat Stay, and the end of a relationship with his longterm girlfriend. While the EP was largely about coming to terms with those losses, and persevering despite the setbacks, Roses sees Quake in a whole new headspace, beaming with positivity, realism and acceptance for the cards he’s been dealt.

“The concept behind the album is that a thorn on a rose is often seen as symbol of imperfection, both beauty and pain,” explains a press released with the project.

“The beauty of the rose is not without its challenges, and the thorns highlight this dual nature.”

Along with Merk, SonReal and Buck, Roses features an incredible lineup of supporting acts including Philly legend Freeway, and Halifax singer-songwriters JRDN and Ria Mae.

You can find Roses on Spotify, and various other digital streaming platforms via Myth Music.
