10th Annual Hip Hop Food Drive: Beats and Community in Ottawa

TLDR: The 10th Annual Hip Hop Food Drive presented by Bring Ya Eh Game is set to rock Ottawa on December 13, 2024, combining live hip-hop performances with a mission to fight food insecurity in Canada.

The 10th Annual Hip Hop Food Drive, presented by Bring Ya Eh Game, is set to take centre stage at Ottawa’s Rainbow Bistro on December 13, 2024. This year’s event isn’t just about beats and rhymes—it’s about battling food insecurity, an issue that continues to weigh heavy on Canadian communities.

What started as a small initiative by award-winning radio host and artist Justin Gunderson (aka J Morris) has grown into a nationwide phenomenon, with 10 cities joining forces to support local food banks. Gunderson’s vision stems from his own experiences with food insecurity, creating a movement that merges the heart of hip-hop culture with meaningful community impact.

“I started the Hip Hop Food Drive 10 years ago to help out communities in need of food donations,” says Gunderson. “I combined my love for hip-hop music with my personal experiences of receiving from food banks, and the food drive was born.”

This year’s drive culminates in an unforgettable night of live performances, featuring Toronto rap legend Dan-e-o and local talent like Chek07even, Nayef, Peter Darker, Fae, 4K, Nami, King Kimbit, TheRealNV, and Moun Fou, with a special showcase by Cap City Cyphers. Music will be supplied by the notorious Circa Beatz, and Gunderson will serve as host. Fans can attend for $10 with a non-perishable food item or $20 without. Doors open at 7:00 pm.

Beyond the event, the drive continues to make a difference across Canada, with monetary donations supporting food banks in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, London, Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax, and more. Canadians can donate online at HipHopFoodDrive.com or via e-transfer to [email protected].

Whether you’re a hip-hop head or just looking for a way to give back, the 10th Annual Hip Hop Food Drive is the perfect way to celebrate community, culture, and compassion.
