Halifax’s Quake Matthews heads to Splashifax for the “Toni Braxton Freestyle” video

Halifax artist Quake Matthews is keeping his foot on the gas. His summer lyrical onslaught was given another boost with the release of his new “Toni Braxton Freestyle.”

The 2:48 minute drop was released with fresh visual support powered by Dartmouth’s Joel Jennex for Jennex Productions, which features Sadie (@sailorxsadie) as the co-star.

The video—which sees Quake rocking a Vladimir Guerrero Montréal Expos jersey—was shot at what could be the coolest floating playground you’ll find on Canada’s East Coast, Splashifax. We asked Quake about choosing the water park as the location for the shoot:

“The location was at Splashifax, a new water park here in Halifax. I saw it on a friend’s story, just happened to be working on this project, and thought it would be a dope fit. I hit them up the next day and they let us have the park to ourselves for a bit to shoot it.”

While speaking with Quake, we took the opportunity to ask about his plans for the rest of the year:

“For the rest of the year, I’m just going to be working hard, dropping singles and freestyles, as well as steering people back to the album. Starting to talk some tour stuff now that the country is opening up.”

Quake’s latest album, The Myth X, was released independently to digital platforms on April 2nd via Quake’s own Myth Music. The album reached the number one spot on the iTunes Canada Hip-Hop / Rap Albums chart and features some of Quake’s most popular songs to date. Since the release of the album, Quake has dropped several dope freestyles (and visuals) including the “Peaches (Remix)” and the more recent “No Friends In The Industry (Freestyle).”
