Will Bobby Shmurda be released early from prison?

The New York State Department of Corrections has stated that Bobby Shmurda is eligible for early release on Feb. 23, 2021.

In early January, reports came out that Brooklyn rapper Bobby Shmurda would be eligible for early release in late February.

As the New York State Department of Corrections told The New York Times, the “Hot N***a” rapper was denied parole in September 2020, but a Department of Corrections review restored his credit for good behaviour. The report states that he’ll be eligible for release on Feb. 23, 2021, and must then serve the remainder of his sentence on parole.

His co-defendant, Rowdy Rebel, was released in late 2020 after spending nearly four years at the Collins Correctional Facility in Erie County near the Canadian border. Rowdy Rebel’s sentence likely would have been even longer had it not been for Bobby adding two years to his sentence to have Rowdy’s reduced from 12 years.

In December of 2014, Shmurda was arrested outside of Manhattan’s Quad Recording Studio, the same building where 2Pac was famously shot five times in 1994. The NYPD accused him of leading the GS9 Crip set, and connected the gang to a murder and several shootings.

As Billboard reported, after agreeing to a plea deal, “the rapper pleaded guilty to 4th-degree conspiracy to criminally possess a weapon and 2nd-degree criminal weapons possession.”

So while we wait for word of Bobby’s early release, we thought we’d take a look at how his rise on the scene came about, and where his legal issues spawned from. Lucky for us, UK YouTuber Trap Lore Ross has a complete breakdown of everything.
